Chicken Barreta is a popular Italian dish that typically consists of chicken breast that is stuffed with prosciutto and cheese, and then coated in breadcrumbs and fried. Here’s a chicken barreta recipe that you can try at home.

Ingredients for Chicken Barreta Recipe

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 thin slices of prosciutto
  • 4 thin slices of provolone cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups Italian breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Instructions for Chicken Barreta Recipe

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Take each chicken breast and place it between two pieces of plastic wrap. Using a meat mallet, pound the chicken until it’s about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
  4. Place a slice of prosciutto and a slice of provolone cheese on each chicken breast.
  5. Roll up each chicken breast, tucking in the ends as you go, and secure with toothpicks.
  6. Place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in three separate shallow bowls.
  7. Coat each chicken breast first in the flour, then in the beaten eggs, and finally in the breadcrumbs.
  8. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  9. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  10. Once the chicken breasts are browned, transfer them to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked.
  11. Remove the toothpicks from the chicken and serve hot.
