Chatni Samosa are a popular Pakistani snack that consists of crispy pastry filled with a savory potato and pea filling, served with a tangy and spicy chutney. Here’s a recipe to make them at home:
Ingredients for Samosas
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup boiled and mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Ingredients for Chatni
- 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions for Chatni Samosa
- To make the dough for samosas, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and oil in a mixing bowl.
- Add water slowly and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and pliable.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp oil and add cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt.
- Add boiled and mashed potatoes and green peas and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes and then set aside.
- Divide the dough into small equal sized balls and roll each ball into a thin oval-shaped circle.
- Cut the circle in half, and fold the straight edge to form a cone shape. Seal the cone with a little water.
- Fill the cone with the potato and pea filling and seal the top with a little water.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the samosas until golden brown.
- To make the chatni, blend together cilantro leaves, mint leaves, ginger, green chilies, cumin seeds, salt, and lemon juice in a blender until smooth.
- Serve the hot samosas with chatni on the side.
