Paris Saint-Germain dominated the title race in the French First Division, with a 3-0 away victory over arch-rivals Olympique de Marseille, to continue its lead at the top of the standings by 8 points.

It was a fantastic experiment in attacking football from Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, who both contributed to the Parisian club’s three goals, reaching individual milestones thanks to it.

Messi scored the 700th goal in terms of his participation with clubs, a number that only Cristiano Ronaldo can match, while Mbappe became the historic scorer for Paris Saint-Germain with 200 goals.

The 23-year-old French striker reached this number of goals in only 246 games, less than 55 games from Edinson Cavani, who scored the same number, according to Opta.

“He is the best striker in the world, that’s for sure, because he plays fast and everything he does is fast,” PSG coach Christophe Galtier told reporters.

“He does it with great intensity and knows how to be present in big matches, which is also a sign of a great player,” added Galtier.

Olympique de Marseille beat the Parisian club earlier this month, eliminating the Parisians from the French Cup, but Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe made the difference in the last confrontation, as the first scored a goal and the second scored two goals.

It wasn’t all good news for Paris Saint-Germain, however, as defender Prisnel Kimpembe was tired early in the first half, before the coach later confirmed he had ruptured his Achilles tendon.

The Parisian club will face its counterpart Nantes in the French First Division, next Saturday, before turning its attention to Bayern Munich, the next Tuesday, as it tries to overturn its 1-0 deficit and reach the quarter-finals in the Champions League.
